Volunteer and Training Programme

A extensive Training, Education and Volunteers Programme has been put together following discussion with a range of local training providers. The training is designed to:

  • Provide innovative and meaningful community based learning and training opportunities about the habitats, hillforts and landscapes of the Sandstone Ridge and their interpretation and management and to help sustain the assets in the future
  • Encourage a wide variety of individual and group participation, promoting health and well-being and lifelong learning through volunteering in specific conservation, access and interpretation initiatives
  • Develop educational experiences and resources, promoting the use of the local heritage resources for local schools
  • Provide opportunities for heritage and rural skills training to meet rural skills shortages
  • Capture and share skills and good practice in heritage and access management, interpretation and community engagement
  • Develop the skills and expertise of the appointed Habitats and Hillforts officers and staff of the partner organisations for the effective management and delivery of the Scheme and its maintenance

Training courses are nationally accredited, offering a practical and hands on approach to learning new skills. The volunteer task days are for people who would like to help preserve and retain part of the rich heritage found in the local landscape. Educational resources for teaching within the national curriculum will be provided as well as with local colleges as part of recognised accreditation schemes.

The training will be delivered by BTCV, Reaseheath College, FWAG, Harthill Arts Trust and Cheshire's Outdoor Education Centres.
