Tales on the Trail

‘bringing Cheshire’s Iron Age Hillforts to life with story and imagination ‘

23rd - 26th July 2009

Tales on the Trail is a unique event where the Journey Man will be walking the entire length of the Sandstone Trail over 4 days. At the end of every day the Journey Man will arrive at one of the Iron Age Hillforts to tell stories on the local landscape.

You are invited to join the Journey Man and listen to his stories amongst some of Cheshire’s spectacular countryside.

The event begins on Thursday 23rd July, with the first story at Maiden Castle, on Bickerton Hill. Gather at Pool Lane car park, Goldford Lane at 7pm. Join the Journey Man with a stroll across the hill and listen to his stories enjoying the view from Maiden Castle.

Friday 24th July, the journey continues, arriving at Beeston Castle. Meet the Journey Man after his second leg at the Castle car park at 7pm and join the procession to the top of the castle where another exciting and inspirational story will be told. Views to the north and south of Cheshire’s Sandstone Ridge can be seen by all.

Saturday 25th July, continuing across Cheshire’s Plain, the Journey Man will look forward to meeting you again. Join together and wonder to the top of Kelsborrow Castle (Kelsall) where the grassy slopes will provide an ideal theatre-like setting for story session no. 3. Meet the Journey Man at the Boot Inn, Kelsall at 4pm.

Sunday 26th July, sees the last leg of the Trail. Join the Journey Man before he continues to the end of the Trail at Woodhouse Hill, Frodsham. The wooded hill is an enchanting setting for the final story. Meet on the Trail at 3pm just off Ridgeway Lane, where you can follow the Journey Man to the setting for the last story.
