Archaeological management issues
As preparation for this Scheme, a Desk-based Assessment and Condition Assessment of the hillforts were carried out by specialist archaeological consultants. A regional survey has shown that 15% of Scheduled Monuments in the North West are at high risk.
Although some proactive management is taking place at some of the hillforts, this Condition Assessment has shown that five out of the six hillforts of the Cheshire Sandstone Ridge are in the high risk category and so are in particular need of active management.
